Makai Club Resort
Project Update
An Important Message from Your Board Members –
Dwight Russell and John 'Jack' Carter

Aloha!

As longtime owners of the Makai Club Resort Condos and Cottages, we are delighted to serve on your Board. We have both been involved in many aspects of the resort projects and planning over the last several years. As Board Members, we are responsible for making sound decisions that affect the overall owners association. Projects are prioritized by a few variables; safety, budgetary impact, Gold Crown ratings, feedback from owners and guests, improvements or simply additions to maintain the quality of our resort and your vacation.

Each year, projects are planned and reviewed for the resort units and buildings interiors and exteriors which include; sidings, railings, sidewalks, pool area, amenities and landscaping. The majority of these projects are funded through your reserve contribution which is included in your annual maintenance fees. Due to sound financial planning by your Board and Grand Pacific Resort Management, we have the funds to continue improvements throughout the resort.

Over the last year, waterproofing was completed for all ground floor Condo units. This also included installing French drains to move water away from the buildings. All carpeting from these units has been replaced with tile. New stairwell carpeting was installed in the condo buildings as well giving them a fresh look! The new color and designs will work well with our exterior elements.

Sidewalks throughout the Cottages were repaired to correct the uneven surfaces due to overgrown roots from trees. Dirt was also added to address the elevation levels alongside the sidewalks, including planting of ferns and other plants. Tree trimming was done throughout the resort to allow for more sunlight and getting trees away from our buildings. This also helps keep away the uninvited insects, chickens and moisture.

New concrete tiles replaced the old wooden shingles on the pool roof and should last for many years to come. What a great improvement and look for our pool area! An awning was installed below the pool roof for shade and shelter for island briefings, owners meetings and our famous Mai Tai Party. A Palapa (thatch roof) and two BBQ grills were added between the 700 Condo buildings. Upon your next visit, you will see the vast improvements to our landscaping. Ferns and plants around the sidewalk areas, beds of flowers/plants around tree bases, lemon/lime/tangerine and lychee trees and a number of other plantings throughout the resort.

Upcoming projects include sidewalk repairs to the Condo buildings, research for additional parking for the 600/700 condo area, asphalt patch repairs, pool furniture replacements, and continued tree trimming and landscaping. Additional fruit trees will be planted - banana, papaya and breadfruit. Noni and Kukui trees will be added as part of our botanical walk program. And, several requests were received to add a small herb garden.

Thank you again to each of you for allowing us to serve as your Board Member. And, don’t forget when visiting your resort to look out for all that has been done and being planned for the future!

Mahalo,
Dwight Russell John 'Jack' Carter
